Finding a legal firm with deep construction experience
One of our portfolio companies is looking for a good legal firm with deep construction experience that can help them structure their terms and marketplace so they aren’t carrying a huge amount of liability on these jobs - anyone have a recommendation?
Alice: There may be a bunch of other things to consider when it comes to finding a lawyer for construction — what market vertical, size of projects, types of contractors, what products are in the marketplace, what scopes of work does it impact, etc.
One lawyer that comes to mind that may make sense is https://www.hansonbridgett.com/ who has been leading the efforts on BIM/IPD in the industry and they should have experience with construction tech and software as it relates to the contractor. DLA Piper and Cooley are lawyers that have worked w/ a lot of construction tech startups.
You can also reach out to https://www.documentcrunch.com/index.php (ConTech startup founded by a previous construction lawyer) and see if he may have some recommendations. Lmk if I can help in any way! [We are a built world focused fund and I used to work in the construction industry.]
